Artist Bio

I am a Canadian abstract and mixed media artist  specializing in encaustic and oil.

My primary objective is to evoke happiness in the eye of the beholder. My work is influenced by my birthplace of Italy, as well as my beloved adopted country of Canada that has nurtured my creative process all of my life, as well as provided me with a place to take various media technique classes.

My encaustic, oil, mixed media works and carvings have been exhibited locally, internationally and in a movie. For a complete list of exhibitions spanning over ten years please visit my CV under Exhibitions.

Having lived in Canada for most of my life, one of my priorities is community involvement.  Through that, I have had the pleasure of working on several community projects with other artists and I look forward to future opportunities in creating art both locally and internationally.

Community Projects & Museum

  • Participated in the Art in the Attic project of Mills of Mississippi presently housed in the Textile Museum in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. Two of my panels are part of a series. completed by various artists.
  • Participated in three various Art In The Attic mural projects, over a period of three years, with various artists, all presently exhibited in the town of Almonte and area, Ontario, Canada. One of which was the 30th Anniversary project that was revealed in May 2020.
  • In partnership with Dovercourt Community Centre, and with another artist, we designed and painted a mural in the community pool.

What is Encaustic?

The word encaustic means "to burn in". It is an ancient art form stemming from Egypt and Rome, comprised of bees wax, damar resin, and pigment. Once the wax mixture is heated to no more than 200 degrees it can be manipulated onto the wooden boards or any other organic object. Each layer of wax mixture must be fused and cooled in order for multiple layers to be added. The wax mixture can be further manipulated with either a heat tool or an encaustic iron. Once completely cooled, the wax hardens and therefore ready for exhibiting.

It is important not to hang any art in direct sunlight. This is also true for encaustic art. It should not be left in a vehicle for an extended period of time. “Bloom” may also appear, if so gently, with a soft clean lint-free cloth, shine up your art piece.
Enjoy!
